MBA Programme The MBA is widely recognised as the most appropriate educational qualification for future senior managers and executives. In keeping with the ethos of the University, the SeMS MBA aims to provide a programme which is both educationally sound and directly relevant to those areas of the professions which MBA graduates tend to enter. The overall objective of the SeMS MBA is to develop analytical abilities using concepts derived from a wide range of academic disciplines directed towards business problem-solving in an international environment. This aim is achieved through the provision of six core modules of study, plus individual choices of two focus modules from a wide range of specialist options, followed by a dissertation. Surrey European Management School (SeMS) was established in 1990 as a result of a proposal contained in the University's Strategic Vision document. The purpose of SeMS is to provide post-experience, postgraduate management education with a view to preparing individuals to perform effectively in a rapidly changing and competitive world. The educational approach adopted is flexible, but consistent with the standards expected from postgraduates of the University of Surrey. SeMS is the postgraduate business school of the University of Surrey. The School offers both general and specialist management programmes, from virtual study - using sophisticated learning tools - to a range of full and part time Masters degrees and research degrees. The School also offers an open access course to provide non-graduate managers access into its MBA and MSc programmes. Its vision is to provide a global, high value collaborative personal development environment that creates quality-learning experiences to a broad range of students wherever they are located. SeMS embraces the University's essential vision of offering its education to a broad and global audience. SeMS is a successful business school. It has a core of approximately 800 students of which some 40% are overseas, based in a geographically dispersed manner in multiple countries. SeMS has amassed vast experience and knowledge of e-learning technologies culminating in the launch of its virtual business school and first virtual MBA programme in January 2001. e-Learning technology is also used to support the full and part-time MBA and MSc programmes. SeMS is fortunate to be able to draw on accomplished academic and research staff resources - they have between them a wealth of experience, which they share, and exchange with various global enterprises. SeMS' special style of teaching, delivery methods and research provides first hand opportunities for students to discuss the latest trends and ideas with University management lecturers and professors, as well as fellow students. The range of disciplines represented in the School neatly spans the business spectrum and is complemented by the abilities of leading external consultants and research associates with whom the School carries out its work.
