    * Introduce yourself to as many people as possible – everyone is in the same boat, with the same fears and anxieties

    * Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you are uncertain about something. There’s always someone there to help, whether it is staff or a fellow student
    * Get to know the campus so that you can get around quickly
    * Visit the societies fair – joining clubs and societies is a great way to meet people with similar interests. Do it early on while everyone is still getting to know each other
    * Join GeogSoc, a great way to meet your fellow Geography students
    * Familiarise yourself early on with the facilities the University has to offer: the Libraries, Sports Centre, Skills Centre, Careers Centre, etc.
    * Buy a diary to write in important dates and deadlines. Refer to the Freshers time planner link on this web page so you know where and when you need to be during Week Zero
    * Make full use of National Union of Students (NUS) Discounts – lots of bars, shops and restaurants on and off-campus offer deals and student discounts

Mistakes to avoid:

    * Leaving registration until the end of Intro Week in an attempt to avoid queues – you may find places on the modules you want have been taken
    * Spending your entire loan in the first few weeks – draw up a budget and try to stick to it!
    * Waiting for a couple of weeks to join societies - people will have got to know each other and it will be harder to join
