A RAID array is healthy. Why does the organization still need backups?

Model Answer & Deep-Dive Explanation

RAID can improve availability and tolerate specific disk failures, depending on the level, but it usually reproduces accidental deletion, corrupted writes, and malicious changes across the array. It does not independently protect against theft, controller failure, disaster, or a failed rebuild. Backups should provide recoverable historical copies with suitable isolation and retention. Define recovery-point and recovery-time objectives and test restoration, including credentials and application consistency. A healthy array reports a storage redundancy state; it does not prove that important data can be recovered after every incident.
