Official Recruitment Notification: UPSC Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2026

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) invites online applications from eligible engineering graduates for recruitment to Group 'A' and Group 'B' engineering services in the Central Power Engineering Service, Central Water Engineering, Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers, Military Engineer Services (MES), and Indian Telecom Service.

Key Details & Vacancies:

Cadres Recruited: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering.
Total Estimated Vacancies: 450+ Group 'A' & 'B' Gazetted Cadres.
Pay Scale: Level 10 of 7th CPC (₹56,100 - ₹1,77,500) with gross emoluments approximately ₹95,000/month plus gove ment quarters.

Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification: Degree in Engineering (B.E. / B.Tech) in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics & Telecommunication from a recognized University or Institute, or Section A & B of Institution Examinations.
Age Limit: 21 to 30 years as of 1st January. Relaxation: SC/ST (5 years), OBC (3 years), Ex-Servicemen & PwBD as per Gove ment rules.
Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to the official physical standards for admission to Engineering Services Examination.

Examination Scheme & Selection Stages:

Stage-I: ESE (Preliminary) Examination: Objective Type Papers (Paper-I: General Studies & Engineering Aptitude - 200 marks; Paper-II: Engineering Discipline - 300 marks).
Stage-II: ESE (Mains) Examination: Conventional / Descriptive Papers (Two discipline-specific technical papers of 300 marks each).
Stage-III: Personality Test / Interview: 200 Marks testing leadership, technical depth, and administrative aptitude.

Application Fee & Official Submission:

Female/SC/ST/PwBD candidates are exempted from payment of fee. General/OBC male candidates pay ₹200 via online net banking, UPI, or debit card. Applications must be completed online strictly on the official portal at upsconline.nic.in.
